Act One, Scene One.

Horse called Mescalito, sees a gringo walking up to him,  the gringo pats it nervously on the nose -Mescalito already know who is in control.

The gringo ´Simon´climbs up the horse and sits into the saddle contemplating the next 4 hours riding to reach camp. The horse follows Gavin the guy from New Zealand who does these treks into the mountain. Simon has asked for the 3 day trip and is going alone with Gavin…

Anyhow, it was really great fun! As there were no other foolish enough to go on the trip I had the exlusive experience. Lots of horse riding – fording fast flowing rivers, real steep climbs, gallops etc following a small Inca trail that led up into the mountains up and down the mountain where there is a camp at about 2600m.The views were fabulous and there is no-one else around. The camp abuts the Podocarpus National Park so there is lots of nature. The place overlooked a whole load of hills and mountains, when the sun set it was spectacular.

On the second day we went for a hike up into the national park and I helped clearing the track. this went through a whole range of different ecosystems, bromeliad, lichen, moss and cloud forests. Marvelous really, didn´t see any Rhino´s, so was a bit dissapointed.

Came back down on the horses today, had my first wash in three days and have been luxuriating in my clean clothes. Also looking forward to a mossie free night sleep as I got bitten to buggery up there.

If my stinking clothes are washed and dried by tonight I will head off into Peru direct from here. If I decide to take the little used mountain route then there is a chance I will be out of contact for a week plus as there are o interweb places . If not you will hear from me in 3 or 4 days as I should then hit the Cordilleras Blancas and a town called Huaraz.
