Well Helleoooo (Lesley Philips style),
Have slipped out of the grip of Montinita, never thought I would ever say I would get bored of drinking and going to clubs, well I still haven´t, but needed to escape for my sanity and health, had also broken a toe doing the surfing thing ,which I can say is a bit of an arse, but have decided against going to a doctor locally for fear of rapido amputationado. Hope it heals soon, though am able to walk, and run so it ain´t too bad.
Currently in Cuenca about 8 hrs from Montinita up in the mountains. The road here was amazing going from sea level to over 4000 meters in a matter of 2 hours, amazing variety of ecology from banana plantations through to cloud forest and into glacial landscapes which reminded me of Wales and Scottyland, very beautiful.
Cuenca is pretty much another much prettier version of Quito, very relaxed, nice people (some too nice as I was approached by a 70 plus year old man who got chatting he invited me back for a tea and then I realised he had alterior motives, after rapidly backpeddling and making loads of excuses I managed to keep my dignity intact (in addition to a few other things..)
Otherwise, loads of churches, museums, Indian people wandering around with llamas on their backs etc all very picturesqew.
I am heading off to a smaller city, Loja, tommorrow a smaller version of Cuenca, then off riding horses into the Jungle in Vilcabamba (sure Los Lobos sang a song about the place).
Oh yes, and thank you Wendy for the estate agent specs.. in your comments, the thing they forgot to add was that the house (though a bargin at $90K was right next door to the nightclub which doesn´t ever seem to close….).
Keep tuned in for the next gripping/gruelling/mind-numbingly tedious installment of Si´s Latino Oddessy..
Si
